I remember when I first started looking for a credit card company to take all my payments I was in for a really big challenge. It was not as straight forward as what I thought that it would be.
I did a lot of searching and it took me a lot of time to find the right company that I could work with. I must have tried a few different solutions until I found the right one for my business.
If you are a medium to a large business I highly recommend that you get a merchant account. This can be a lot of work to get setup as they need a lot of documentation. However, the rates start anywhere from 1.29 percent depending on the service that you require. Since you will be doing a lot of volume you will want to get the best value. If you search on Google there are a few websites that help in getting your merchant account setup for your business for a small fee.
This option was not applicable to me mainly because I am a small business. I tried a few alternatives like the Kagi store, but this was really complicated to setup. They did have an account manager to help you get started, but the ordering process looked very involved and I was scared that I was going to lose customers. I also tried Verotel and Clickbank, but their processing fees are too high.

Credit Card Processing Over the Internet
By Michael Rupkalvis
In today's competitive business environment it's important that you have all the tools possible to achieve success. If you're planning on doing business online and you need to take payments for your products or services, it's critical that your website have credit card processing utilizing an internet merchant account.
Why is an internet merchant account so important?
Customers like to use their credit cards when making purchases from businesses online because they know it adds an extra level of protection. If they buy something and for whatever reason they're not happy with the product or service, they have more control of the situation. If the business does not fix the problem to the customer's satisfaction, the customer can dispute (charge back) the transaction and potentially recover their funds. They can't do that with a money order or check.
Your business has to get approved for a merchant account. Since there is an approval process regulated by the Visa/MasterCard associations, your business looks much more legitimate if you accept credit cards. Customers know that your business has been checked out by a third party who has approved you to sell your product or service online.
A few other advantages of being able to accept credit card purchases are:
High ticket items - If you sell expensive items it's even more crucial that you provide your customers with credit card processing. Your potential customers might not have enough money in their checking account to buy your product or service. If they have the option to put it on their credit card and make monthly payments, the chance of converting them to a sale is much higher.
Impulse buyers - If a customer visits your site and a competitor's site, whom do you think they'll buy from: the site that offers credit card processing and can ship in 1-2 days; or the site that doesn't have an internet merchant account and has to wait 10-14 days for a check to clear? Merchants with credit card processing services can ship product much quicker, since they can get real-time approval on credit cards.
Rewards programs - People love to use their credit cards because of all the perks they receive from their issuer.
If you're going to do business online you need credit card processing services on your website. There are plenty of cheap internet merchant accounts out there if you shop around and ask the right questions.

Secure Credit Card Processing With an Internet Merchant Account
By Michael Rupkalvis
The time of online commerce has finally, fully arrived and along with it comes the issue of credit card processing. More and more businesses are going online, and more and more transactions occur through online commercial sites. But that means that more and more entrepreneurs are having to decide how they wish to handle order processing.
Using an internet merchant account to process credit card transactions provides a range of benefits to you and to your customers that makes the transactions safe and attractive to both parties. A secure merchant account gives reassurance to customers, providing a clear paper trail in cases of lost purchases or customer dissatisfaction. It allows the merchant comfort, too, securing payment and delivering it to the merchant within two days of purchase.
The safety and security of an online purchase by credit card, using a secure credit card processing system, improves your rate of sales and capitalizes on impulse buys, encouraging customers to make high priced purchases knowing they can pay them off through their card credit companies over time. Up selling is easier, too, allowing simple and elegant product bundles and suggested products to be presented to the buyer without creating that annoying sense of pressure that can kill a sale before it ever has a chance.
A customer who is free to choose in the privacy of his own home is more likely to follow his heart: that means more sales of a higher level for you, and better yet, greater customer satisfaction. The purchaser who buys exactly what he really wants is less likely to be unhappy with his purchase or the merchant who provided the product than a customer who was only buying something "close enough."
Having a proper, secure internet merchant account gives an aura of prestige and legitimacy to any business - no 'fly-by-night' payment arrangements designed to avoid the clearance and approval process that is required in order to be approved for an account.
The internet merchant account makes everything clean, smooth, simple and elegant: your business looks good, you are able to ship faster, your customer receives his goods more quickly, and you both have a paper trail to simplify accounting...the advantages are obvious.
When searching for a great internet merchant account for your credit card processing needs, you should look for some specific details that make the package all it could be. Be sure to get an AuthorizeNet online payment gateway. Some companies offer this secure benefit for free. Be sure you are getting secure real-time processing. Anything less can add levels of risk for both parties.
If you can, avoid going with a merchant account that involves a long-term contract. A lot of providers function like many phone companies, tying merchants to two to three year contracts, making it hard to alter your plans should you need to. Also, try to find a service that charges no annual fees, and that demands no monthly minimums.
If you are able to put a check beside all the above features when contracting for an internet merchant account to handle your credit card processing needs, you will have found a gem. You and your customers will be getting top of the line benefits at a fair rate, with solid protections.

Internet Credit Card Payment Processing
By Jimmy Sturo
With the widespread success of the Internet, you can almost make any type of purchase online. Whether it is your groceries, subscriptions for comics or magazines, the latest best-sellers, DVD movies or audio CDs, the World Wide Web has everything. You can virtually fit some clothes online. When you get the desired garments, just check them out in a virtual shopping cart and make the purchase.
You can buy songs and movies online. You can make donations to your favorite charities. You can contribute to the sites you frequent. Almost anything you need, you can find online. The only requirement is that you need to have a credit card on hand. But do you know what goes on whenever you place the number of your credit card on the blanks and check out of the virtual store with your purchases?
There are several processes that take place during an online purchase. Your virtual store would request for your name and your credit card number. The system in the virtual store can actually verify whether or not the credit card is owned by the name specified. This is an optional step though since not everyone uses their own card.
The transaction is then sent to the system of the credit card company for recording. It is important to note that currency is specified with the transaction since not all transactions made are in American dollars. As a security measure, some credit card companies would send you an e-mail to verify if you did make such a transaction. Be very careful when answering the verification E-mail. You can commit fraud by answering no even if you did make the transaction. If you do not respond after a certain period of time, your credit card would be suspended.
